Privacy notes for Poko.
Last updated: June 13, 2026
Poko is a beginner Japanese learning app focused on kana, vocabulary, weak review, and short AI Explain Lite requests.
Data stored on device
Poko stores onboarding choices, lesson progress, quiz results, weak points, unlocked words, JLPT familiarity, and saved explanations locally on the device.
AI Explain Lite
When you request an explanation, the short Japanese text you submit is sent to Poko's backend proxy so the app can return a structured beginner explanation. The proxy uses an installation or account key to enforce daily quota and cache recent explanation results. Poko does not provide open-ended AI chat in V1.
Analytics
The app may collect analytics events for onboarding, lessons, quiz completion, weak review, paywall views, purchases, dictionary usage, and AI Explain usage. These events are used to operate and improve the learning experience.
Purchases
Poko uses Apple in-app purchases for digital access. Pro subscriptions unlock deeper lessons, review, the full Poko Words bank, and higher AI Explain limits. A separate Poko Words Lifetime purchase unlocks permanent JLPT word-bank access without raising the Pro AI quota.
Advertising
Free learners may see Google Mobile Ads interstitial ads when leaving a quiz or review practice early. Poko Pro removes these free-user ad breaks. On iOS, Poko may ask for App Tracking Transparency permission before the first ad request so ads can be delivered and measured according to the user's choice.
